Sandra Familet, The Chauncy F. Lufkins Foundation

Sandra Familet serves as advisor to the Chauncey F. Lufkin III Foundation for its venture investments. 

She is a dynamic industry veteran with more than 25 years of investment banking as well as marketing and capital raising experience for best of breed alternative and traditional asset management firms.  Sandra’s relationships span across the United States and include high net worth individuals/angel investors, multi/single family offices, endowments, foundations, wealth managers, fund of funds, public and private pension plans, insurance companies and consultants. She has raised billions in capital by employing a consultative sales approach.

In 2010 Sandra founded her own independent institutional marketing intelligence and third party placement firm, an affiliate of Weild & Co., focusing exclusively on alternative funds in a variety of different innovative strategies.  Her firm, now in its sixth year, is best known for finding capital from anchor investors for first time alternative funds.  To augment her private market skill set, during 2016, Sandra served as Managing Director to help launch the strategic joint venture (“JV”) between Institutional Investor and Zanbato, Inc.   This JV was created to bring together the private placement technology of Zanbato for both funds and venture secondaries and the market reach of Institutional Investor’s Investor Intelligence Network “IIN” and Family Office Network “FON” to increase the efficiency of the world's private capital markets.

Prior to founding her own firm, from 2005-2009, Sandra was a Director and Senior Distribution Banker in Merrill Lynch’s Investment Banking Division in the Private Equity Funds Group where she served as placement agent for third-party as well internally branded private equity, real estate, infrastructure, venture capital, and hedge funds.  From 1998-2003, Sandra was one of the first capital raisers for BlackRock where she raised $7 billion in new business and serviced over $18 billion in assets as a client service relationship manager. Her wins generated front-page coverage in Pension & Investments and Financial Times Mandate.

Prior to joining BlackRock, Sandra was a Derivatives Sales Trader for Goldman Sachs, where she was responsible for the creation and marketing of new products.  Before joining Goldman, Sandra was a Vice President in the Fixed Income Client Strategies Group with Merrill Lynch. During the seven years that she spent with Merrill, beginning in 1989, Sandra worked closely with Merrill’s Investment Banking Division, holding positions in Merrill’s Private Resources Department where she helped structure private placement financings as well as on Merrill's Equity Syndicate Desk where she marketed and distributed initial public and secondary equity offerings.  She also led the firm’s national strategic marketing effort for its sponsorship interest in The Entrepreneur Of The Year Program (“EOY”) to build relationships and generate business with emerging blue chip companies.  Sandra began her career in 1985 with McCann Erickson where she provided global marketing advisory services to the firm’s Fortune 500 clients.

Sandra has her MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth and a Bachelor of Science from St. Peter’s College where she graduated as Valedictorian, summa cum laude in cursu honorum, with a double major in Accounting and Marketing and minor in Economics.  She has her series 7, 63, and 24, is an associate with The Milken Foundation, a fellow of The Aspen Institute, and one of the original supporters of both The Robin Hood Foundation and TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design).
